Thermal gradient
A measured warm end and cool end, so the animal can choose its own temperature. Checked at the surface, not in the air.
Life
Husbandry is a monitoring problem with a living dependency. Get the gradient, the humidity and the feeding interval right and almost everything else takes care of itself. Get them wrong slowly and you will not notice until it matters.
Approach
Every enclosure gets measured rather than estimated. Surface temperature at the basking spot and at the cool end, ambient humidity, and a thermostat with a backup cutoff on anything that produces heat. A thermometer that reads one number for the whole enclosure is not telling you what you need to know.
Feeding, sheds, weights and defecation go into a log. The value is not any single entry - it is being able to answer “is this normal for this animal?” with evidence instead of a guess.
This is the same discipline as the rest of the site, applied to something that cannot tell you when it is uncomfortable.
Husbandry
01
A measured warm end and cool end, so the animal can choose its own temperature. Checked at the surface, not in the air.
02
Held in the range the species evolved for, with substrate and ventilation doing the work rather than daily misting.
03
Appropriate UVB where the species needs it, on a fixed photoperiod, replaced on schedule - output falls long before the bulb stops lighting up.
04
Weights, feeds, sheds and behavior, dated. A trend line is the earliest warning you get that something is wrong.
The animals
Species, enclosure details and individual profiles will go here. The markup pattern is the same entry list used on the technology page.
